Pirfenidone
Pirfenidone is an oral prescription medication used to treat idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), a chronic disease that causes progressive scarring and inflammation in the lungs. It is an antifibrotic agent that helps slow the decline of lung function.

DEFINITION
5-Methyl-1-phenylpyridin-2(1H)-one.
Content: 98.0 per cent to 102.0 per cent (dried substance).
CHARACTERS
Appearance: White or pale yellow, crystalline powder.
Solubility: Sparingly soluble in water, freely soluble in ethanol (96 per cent), slightly soluble in heptane.
IDENTIFICATION
Infrared absorption spectrophotometry.
TESTS
Related substances: To pass the test by Liquid chromatography.
Loss on drying: Maximum 0.5 per cent, determined on 1.000 g by drying at 80C at a pressure not exceeding 75 kPa for 4 h.
Sulfated ash: Maximum 0.2 per cent, determined on 1.0 g.
