N Acetyl Cysteine or Acetylcysteine or 2-Acetamido-3-Mercaptopropionic Acid is an organic compound with molecular formula C5H9NO3S. It occurs as a White, crystalline powder. Freely soluble in water and in alcohol; practically insoluble in chloroform and in ether. N-acetyl cysteine is an antioxidant that might play a role in preventing cancer. Use of N-acetyl cysteine (NAC), as a nutritional supplement, is being considered by FDA.
