Benzyl Chloride
Benzyl chloride, or α-chlorotoluene is the precursor to benzyl esters. Benzyl chloride may be used in the synthesis of amphetamine-class drugs. Benzyl chloride also reacts readily with metallic magnesium to produce a Grignard reagent. It is used in the manufacture of certain dyes and pharmaceutical products and as a photographic developer.
