Trimetazidine Dihydrochloride or Trimetazidine Hydrochloride is a metabolic agent prescribed as an add-on treatment for stable angina pectoris (chest pain). It helps the heart muscle use oxygen more efficiently by shifting cellular energy processes, without changing heart rate or blood pressure.

Action and use: Vasodilator.
DEFINITION
1-(2,3,4-Trimethoxybenzyl)piperazine dihydrochloride.
Content: 98.5 per cent to 101.5 per cent (dried substance).
CHARACTERS
Appearance: White or almost white, crystalline powder, slightly hygroscopic.
Solubility: Freely soluble in water, sparingly soluble in alcohol.
IDENTIFICATION
A. Infrared absorption spectrophotometry.
B. Dissolve 25 mg in 5 mL of water. 2 mL of the solution gives reaction of chlorides.
TESTS
Appearance of solution: The solution is clear and not more intensely coloured than reference solution. Dissolve 1.0 g in water and dilute to 10 mL with the same solvent.
Related substances: To pass the test by Liquid chromatography.
Impurity G: To pass the test by Thin-layer chromatography.
Loss on drying: Maximum 2.5 per cent, determined on 1.000 g by drying in an oven at 105C over diphosphorus pentoxide at a pressure not exceeding 15 kPa.
Sulfated ash: Maximum 0.1 per cent, determined on 1.0 g.
Storage: In an airtight container.
