DEFINITION
Mixture of 1,3-dioxan-5-ol and (1,3-dioxolan-4-yl)methanol.

CHARACTERS
Appearance: Clear, colourless liquid.
Solubility: Miscible with water and with ethanol (96 per cent).

IDENTIFICATION
A. Relative density (see Tests).
B. Refractive index (see Tests).
C. Infrared absorption spectrophotometry.

TESTS
Appearance: The substance to be examined is clear and colourless.
pH: 4.0 to 6.5.
Relative density: 1.210 to 1.220.
Refractive index: 1.445 to 1.455.
Peroxide value: Maximum 15.
Formaldehyde: Maximum 200 ppm.
Water: Maximum 0.5 per cent, determined on 5.000 g.
