DEFINITION
Choline Chloride contains NLT 99.0% and NMT 100.5% of choline chloride (C5H14ClNO), calculated on the anhydrous basis.

IDENTIFICATION
A. Infrared Absorption.
B. Identification Tests-General, Chloride: A solution (1 in 20) meets the requirements.

ASSAY
To pass the test.
Sample: 120 mg
Acceptance criteria: 99.0% to 100.5% on the anhydrous basis.

Residual Solvents: Meets the requirements, except that the limit for 1,4-dioxane is 10 µg/g.
Residue on Ignition: NMT 0.05%
Arsenic: NMT 2 ppm
Lead: To pass the test. --- (NMT 0.3 ppm).
Limit of Total Amines: To pass the test.
Acceptance criteria: NMT 10 µg/g

DESCRIPTION
Choline Chloride occurs as colorless or white crystals or as a crystalline powder. It is hygroscopic, and is very soluble in water and in alcohol.
Function: Nutrient.

REQUIREMENTS
Identification:
A. A sample responds to Identification.
B. A 1:20 aqueous solution gives positive tests for Chloride.
Assay: Not less than 98.0% and not more than 100.5% of C5H14ClNO, calculated on the anhydrous basis.
1,4-Dioxane: Passes test.
Lead: Not more than 2 mg/kg.
Residue on Ignition: Not more than 0.05%.
Water: Not more than 0.5%.
